If the last few months of news coverage hasn’t made people across the country question our dependence on fossil fuels, I don’t know what will.
In the midst of disaster, the Senate announced last week it will not take up a comprehensive clean energy and climate bill before the August recess. So I’m asking you to join thousands of religious leaders and people of faith across the country in taking a stand as a Climate Convert during our visibility weekend — August 6 – 8.
Send a message to your senators telling them that you’ve had enough — oil disasters and mining tragedies should be our wake up call to convert to a clean energy future. We need eyes to see and ears to hear that we cannot continue along this path. Our children and future generations are depending on us to act now.
Here is how you can speak out as a Climate Convert:
- First, send a message to your senators, telling them that we have a moral responsibility to pass clean energy and climate legislation now.
- Then, join us on the weekend of visibility, on August 6 – 8, in wearing your free “Converted?” pin. This is the weekend right after the congressional recess begins — and that’s no accident. It is our opportunity to show our support for policies that protect creation right when our elected officials are heading back to their home communities.
When you join committed people across the country in taking action, you’ll be helping to grow awareness of our movement, and to show our elected officials that there’s a growing community that understands the connection between our faith and our policies that impact the environment.
You will inspire others to send a message to their senators as well. We’ve even written some talking points to help with your conversations.
We know that when faith communities speak out, people listen. As people of faith, our visibility is part of our responsibility — to ourselves, our families, and to our neighbors at home and abroad.
