We began with a session for our new IPLs on networking and getting started. Each state leader shared where they were in their development, and we reviewed IPL’s core programs.

After lunch, we gathered for an interfaith opening service, with readings and singing. Each of the conference attendees brought local water, both from their taps and from natural sources where they live. Everyone combined their water into a large bowl, and we reflected on the act’s symbolic significance.

The rest of the day state leaders shared successful programs they’ve introduced in their states, and we discussed strategies for online organizing and congregational based organizing.

After dinner we enjoyed a “fireside chat” with Rev. Richard Cizik and Rabbi Fred Scherlinder Dobb, facilitated by Sally Bingham. Each of these powerfully influential religious leaders shared their personal stories about how they got involved in climate protection, the obstacles they’ve faced, and their hope for the future. (Video on this session coming soon!)
