Dr. David Oliver, a retired scientist, spent his professional life as an engineer after graduating from MIT in 1961. However, he has spent his retirement writing poetry that he hopes will make others aware of the environment and climate change.
“The reason for emphasizing poetry over the last few years is that as a scientist, I know the realities of climate change, and I know it will affect my grandchildren,” says Oliver. “I wanted to do something that reaches people, touching their values, emotions and feelings. I use poetry to reach people in a different way. You have to be able to touch their belief system.” Dr. Oliver is a member of the Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light.
