Outside of whether or not nuclear power is a viable alternative to fossil fuels is the issue of where to site its plants, how to pay for it and how it will be regulated. Planning plants and all entailed with that activity may be expensive and time consuming. For good reason, environmental advocates say. Large utility corporations are attempting to streamline the decision making processes for the siting and building of nuclear power plants. This article explores how similar measures were thwarted in North Carolina with the help of organizations like the North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light.
