Emanuel forms ‘green team,’ becomes ‘cool congregation’

Temple Emanuel in Tempe, Arizona, has become a ‘cool congregation’ and is active in Arizona IPL, the state affiliate for Arizona of the national Interfaith Power & Light campaign. In November 2010, a core group of Emanuel members attended an Arizona IPL workshop about a new program, Cool Congregations, that teaches how to calculate carbon footprints and learn about practical ways to reduce energy usage. “It’s a really comprehensive way of getting congregants to look at their own carbon footprint and save money at the same time,” said Judy Stock, Emanuel’s vice president of social justice.
