“IPL congratulates Gina McCarthy on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate today.  Her appointment is great news for Americans’ health and environment, and for the implementation of the president’s climate plan.

People of all faiths are concerned about the growing threat  of climate change and dangerous air quality, and Ms. McCarthy has proven herself a champion of those suffering from poor air quality and pollution.

As Assistant Administrator for EPA’s office of Air and Radiation, Ms. McCarthy led the development of some of the EPA’s strongest safeguards, including carbon pollution standards for power plants, the first carbon limits for vehicles, and lifesaving updates of standards that limit soot, mercury, and air toxics. She worked for five Republican governors before joining the Obama administration.

IPL and its 40 affiliates look forward to working with her.”
