Community United Church of Christ in Fresno is the recipient of a California Interfaith Power and Light 2014 Cool Climate Award for water stewardship.
In the past several months, church members gathered several times to “solarize” a lawn area, disposing of the lawn in a chemical-free way. They also placed a cardboard barrier over the newly empty space, then spread mulch and placed boulders in a decorative pattern as landscaping. The lawn had required a lot of water to maintain.
