California: EdenKeeper – City of Palo Alto Joins Call for Fossil Fuel Divestment

The City of Palo Alto has just joined a growing group of California cities calling for fossil fuel divestment from State employee pension funds (CalPERS). Thanks in great part to the tireless efforts of Peninsula Interfaith Climate Action (PICA), the Palo Alto city council voted 9-0 to send a message requesting CalPERS to divest from all fossil fuel investments. As a result, Councilmembers Marc Berman, Patrick Burt, Karen Holman, and Liz Kniss have submitted the initial “Colleague’s Memo” to CalPERS, the nations largest pension fund, requesting fossil fuel divestment.
