Last week Interfaith Power & Light (IPL), United Methodist Women (UMW) and the United Church of Christ marked a victory in our  #FaithtoFord campaign when Ford and three other automakers announced that they struck a deal with California to reject the Trump administration’s attempt to gut the Clean Car Standards.

More than 4,000 people of faith like you called on Ford Motor Company to stand by the Clean Car Standards, and we delivered those signatures to Ford Headquarters and at Ford dealerships around the country.

Ford’s decision to break with other major U.S. automakers in favor of cleaner vehicles shows the influence of the U.S. faith community. Now, the other automakers need to stand with California and against the Trump rollback of our Clean Car Standards.

In making the deal with California, Ford and the three other automakers proved that the gutted car fuel efficiency standard that the Trump administration is proposing is unnecessary. While we still have work to do to push automakers to achieve and exceed the original Clean Car Standards they supported in 2012 (more than 50 mpg average by 2025), this is a big step forward.
