Faith leaders condemn Trump EPA’s proposal to attack the authority of states to adopt stronger vehicle pollution standards.

The Trump administration has just announced an unethical and immoral decision to increase vehicle pollution and hinder the rights of states to protect their own citizens from air pollution. People of faith and conscience from around the country call on President Trump and EPA administrator Wheeler to reverse course on this harmful attack on states’ rights and clean air.

Currently, more than 118 million people live in the 14 states plus the District of Columbia that have adopted more appropriate auto pollution standards in order to protect the health of their communities. The authority of states, established under the Clean Air Act, to adopt stronger limits on pollution from cars is essential to progress on cleaning our air, protecting public health, and fighting for climate justice.

We have a moral imperative to speak out against this reckless decision by the Trump administration.
