Interfaith Power & Light Applauds Biden Administration Proposal to Reinstate State Authority to Limit Pollution
For Immediate Release: April 26, 2021
Oakland, CA – Today the Biden administration began the process of reaffirming state authority to limit vehicle pollution. This is a critical step, as building cleaner cars and cleaning up our transportation system are essential steps to addressing the climate crisis.
In response, Interfaith Power & Light’s President Rev. Susan Hendershot released this statement:
“The transportation sector is our largest source of carbon pollution. Pollution from dirty vehicles has serious health impacts for our most vulnerable communities, including exacerbating asthma and other respiratory issues. As people of faith and conscience, we recognize that cleaner cars aren’t just necessary to prevent the worst impacts of the climate crisis; they are an essential step on the path toward environmental justice.
We now urge the Biden Administration to continue forward with this moral opportunity to reestablish and strengthen America’s commitment to innovative pollution and climate solutions. President Biden should also direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to lead the development of new, long-term, multi-pollutant standards that will put the U.S. on a trajectory to make all new cars and light-duty trucks zero-emission vehicles no later than 2035. People of faith and conscience will make sure that our elected leaders understand the importance of reining in tailpipe pollution, in order to commit to our shared goals of climate and environmental justice.”
