Interfaith Power & Light Responds to Synagogue Bomb Threats
During Rosh Hashanah
The High Holy Days at Jewish synagogues across the United States have been interrupted by bomb threats.
In response, the Interfaith Power & Light network released this statement:
As an interfaith organization supporting the free expression of religious faith, Interfaith Power & Light condemns in the strongest possible terms the bomb threats and other harassments that have once again plagued the Jewish community in recent days. We are heartbroken that during the observance of the High Holy Days, our beloveds in the Jewish community must be subjected to this kind of anxiety and fear of violence.
Antisemitism, like any form of bigotry and hate, is unacceptable. It stems from a deep disregard of the inherent worth and dignity of each person, which for us is a core value, common to all great global spiritual traditions. We condemn threats to synagogues, temples, and community centers, and any attacks or violence against Jews and others, in word or deed alike.
As faith leaders from different backgrounds and traditions, we reaffirm our solidarity with our Jewish neighbors and communities, and call on all faith-based organizations to join us. IPL is dedicated to bringing wholeness back to the creation, and part of that wholeness is renewing respect and honor for all of God’s creatures. Let us turn our anguish into action, and turn our faith into deeds of lovingkindness.
Interfaith Power & Light works in all 50 states and U.S. territories with a broad national network of state- and regional-level affiliates. IPL inspires and mobilizes people of faith and conscience to take bold and just action on climate change.
