On Living Your Convictions – A Tribute to IPL Volunteer Jerry Bernstein

On Living Your Convictions – A Tribute to IPL Volunteer Jerry Bernstein

We want to extend a huge thank you to our volunteer Gerald (Jerry) Bernstein who has given so much of his time and service to IPL. Jerry embodies the spirit of generosity and living his conviction with courage. For 5 years, Jerry served IPL by being a judge in the Cool Congregations challenge and helping congregations assess solar feasibility and financing. We sat down with Jerry and interviewed him about his illustrious life, how he became involved with IPL, and what motivates him to be part of the climate movement.

Encouraging Faith Communities to Vote – Sermons on Importance of Voting

Encouraging Faith Communities to Vote – Sermons on Importance of Voting

Faith leaders understand the importance of using their prophetic voices to call the faithful to live by their most deeply-held values. In an election year, voting is one way that we can bring forth a world rooted in those values–values of justice, hope, courage, and love for all of God’s Creation, our Sacred Earth. But to do this, we need to make sure that people of faith are voting. That starts with our congregations.

On August 9, 2022, IPL President Rev. Susan Hendershot; IPL Board Chair Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Durley; IPL Board member Rabbi Fred Scherlinder Dobb; and Islamic Organization of North America Imam and President Mustapha Elturk discussed how we can encourage faith communities to vote by offering sermons, divrei Torah, and khutbahs on the importance of voting.

Please note that a native land acknowledgement was removed from the beginning due to a technical issue. Closing prayers in Hebrew and Arabic are not yet available for captioning.

IPL’s Voter Registration Training with When We All Vote

IPL’s Voter Registration Training with When We All Vote

Make sure your community and the people in your life are ready to vote. This July 25, 2022 training with our partners at When We All Vote on how to register voters and help voters make sure their registration is up to date provides strategies, resources, and guidance for ways to help register voters virtually and make a meaningful impact.

Voting is how we create a society based on our shared values. This election is about the values shaping our future. As people of faith and conscience, our values call us to care for our neighbors and this Sacred Earth. We can join together to vote our values and make a difference.

Protecting Our Democracy in 2022

Protecting Our Democracy in 2022

We believe that as voters we have the ability to choose the elected leaders who represent us. When it comes to elections, we want a transparent process we can trust, where Americans have equal freedom to vote regardless of our identity, where we live, or how we worship.

But today, a handful of politicians have put up barriers to silence our voices.

Interfaith Power & Light’s Faithful Voter Reflection Guide states that “voting is the very foundation of representative democracy….but this most basic right has been undermined by courts and politicians who make it harder for citizens to participate in the political process. Those who erect obstacles to voting are violating one of our most sacred values and damaging our democracy.”

Join CJM's co-executive director Avery Davis Lamb for a discussion with Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, the President of Sojourners, and our affiliate leaders from Georgia, Michigan, and Texas, to discuss what’s at stake and why people of faith and conscience and our faith communities are uniquely positioned to protect our democracy.

Our time together will inspire and equip you to protect democracy and elections in your community.

Together, we can ensure that every American can safely and freely cast their ballot so that every voice is heard and our elections reflect the will of the people.
