Carbon Covenant is a program sponsored by Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) to empower faith communities in the US and abroad to combat climate change.
Right now in Africa, in Asia, and all over the developing world people’s lives, homes, and livelihoods are being threatened. Those who have contributed the least to global warming are the ones suffering the most. Deforestation is the biggest contributor to global climate change in the developing world, and it is contributing to loss of species and erosion.
You donation will go to four sponsored projects, all focused on reforestation or avoiding deforestation.
- Trees & Eco-clubs in Ghana – supporting Presbyterian youth eco-club programs to learn about deforestation and plant trees
- Trees of Kilimanjaro – planting trees and supporting women’s empowerment through microenterprise programs near Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania supported by the Lutheran church.
- Interfaith Collaboration in Cameroon – establishing interfaith dialogue and collaboration between Christians and Muslims to plant trees in reforestation projects in Cameroon.
- Monk Patrol in Cambodia – helps Buddhist “eco-monks” in their daily forest patrols to prevent illegal deforestation in Cambodia and protect local peoples’ land and livelihood.
