In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, parishioner Jack Hill will give a reflection in the Fr. Courtney Reception Room at 6:30 pm, Monday, February 16, about what we may hear from Pope Francis in his encyclical regarding ecology expected in 2015.
Jack, Minister of the People of Peace Secular Franciscan Order which meets at Marian University, and who works on the Care for Creation ministry at St. Luke Catholic Church, will talk about biblical references to humans in creation, the impact of St. Francis of Assisi, and how Catholic Social Teaching, particularly from recent Popes, has influenced Pope Francis.
In his unique style, our Francis from South America is expected to link a prudential judgment regarding human damage to the environment with principles supporting life and dignity of the human person and our options for the poor and vulnerable.
Drawing from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Catholic Climate Covenant, and Interfaith organizations, opportunities for prayer, study, individual and family action, and advocacy will be covered following this reflection.
