My family is engaged in a forest stewardship project on 13.4 acres of historic farm and forest. We’re mostly learning what the species are that belong here and those that don’t. Trees, yes — Black walnuts dominate, Ash are struggling against an insect, Sycamores and Hornbeams take your breath away. But this is the moment of the year of finding the little plants beneath the trees. Last summer we met the true wild comfrey, and now we know what it looks like just coming up (though not yet as seedlings).
We invite you to come with us this week on our voyage of discovery. Each day, as #pasturetoforest on Instagram and in Facebook groups such as Native Plants of the Northeast; Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology, and the Christian Faith; Presbyterians for Earth Care; and Vernon Happenings — Non-Political I will post photos of the species we’re learning to treasure on our #oxygenfarm and comment on the faith connection that makes this journey important to me.
